Alberto Emilio de Poo Bas, doing business as Libre sin Deudas (“we,” “us”), operates obtenla.com. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what control you have over it.
1. Information you provide
Email address. If you subscribe to receive study materials, updates, or reminders, we store your email address and the date you subscribed.
USCIS receipt number. We are developing a case tracking tool that will require your receipt number. It is not yet available; we will update this policy before activating it.
Contact messages. If you write to us, we retain the message and your contact details so we can respond.
We do not ask for — and we ask that you do not send us — Social Security numbers, Alien Registration Numbers (A-Numbers), passport details, dates of birth, financial information, or copies of immigration documents. We don’t need them and we don’t want to hold them.
We do not collect geolocation data, medical information, financial information, or your contacts.
2. Information collected automatically
Our server logs IP address, browser type, pages visited, and access date and time.
We use this for security and to understand which content is useful. These logs are retained for a maximum of 30 days.
3. Cookies
We use strictly necessary cookies to make the site work, including language preference and dark mode.
If we use analytics, it is in aggregate form without advertising profiling. You can block cookies in your browser, though some features may stop working.
The contact form uses Google reCAPTCHA, which sets its own cookies to distinguish between people and automated programs.
4. How we use your information
We use the information you give us to:
Respond to your case status inquiries
Send you the materials or updates you requested
Improve the site’s content and tools
Maintain site security and comply with the law
We do not sell your information. We do not sell it for profit or in any other monetary transaction. We do not rent it. We do not share it with advertisers, data brokers, or private immigration agencies.
Your choices. Sharing your information with us is voluntary. You can use the study materials and guides without giving us any data at all.
If you choose to subscribe or use a tool that requires data, the benefit is receiving the materials or service you requested. The risk, as with any online service, is that no system is completely secure. You can unsubscribe or request deletion of your data at any time.
Impact on other people. If you send us information about another person — for example, a family member’s receipt number — that person has the same rights over that information as you have over yours. We ask that you not share third-party data without their authorization.
5. Who we share information with
Only with providers necessary to operate the service:
USCIS — receipt numbers are transmitted to USCIS systems to retrieve case status. That transmission is governed by USCIS policies.
Hosting and email providers — to host the site and send the emails you requested.
- Google (reCAPTCHA) — we use reCAPTCHA on the contact form to protect it
against automated submissions. When you use that form, Google receives your IP
address and data about your interaction with the page, and uses it under its
Privacy Policy.
We may also disclose information if required by law under a valid legal order.
Conditions for third parties. Providers that process information on our behalf are bound by the terms of this policy. They are prohibited from using or disclosing your information — including de-identified, anonymized, or pseudonymized data — for any purpose other than providing us the service, without your active consent.
We do not share de-identified, anonymized, or pseudonymized data with third parties for commercial, research, or advertising purposes.
6. How long we keep your information
Subscription emails: until you unsubscribe. After you unsubscribe, we delete the address within 30 days.
Case status lookups: see section 1.
Contact messages: up to 2 years.
Server logs: up to 30 days.
Deletion requests. When you ask us to delete your information, we remove it from our active systems within 30 days and confirm by email. Backup copies are overwritten on the normal cycle, which does not exceed 90 days.
7. Your rights
Write to info@obtenla.com with “Privacy” in the subject line to:
Find out what information we hold about you
Correct it
Delete it entirely
Unsubscribe from our emails
Close your account, if we offer user accounts in the future
How to delete your data. A single email requesting it is enough. You don’t need to explain why or fill out any forms. We will confirm your identity only by replying to the address you write from, and then proceed.
Timeframes. We acknowledge your request within 5 business days and complete it within 45 days at most. The deletion itself happens within 30 days, as described in the previous section.
Unsubscribing. All of our emails include a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also request it by email.
California residents. If you reside in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you additional rights, including the right to know what categories of personal information we collect, to request its deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell personal information, so there is no sale opt-out mechanism. Exercise any of these rights by writing to info@obtenla.com.
Texas and other state residents. If your state has an applicable privacy law, you may have equivalent rights. They are exercised through the same channel.
8. Security
The site uses HTTPS encryption. Information is stored on servers with restricted access.
No system is completely secure, but we deliberately limit what we collect to reduce risk.
9. What we do if there is a data breach
If we detect unauthorized access to personal information you have provided to us, we will notify you by email at the address we have on file, within 30 days of confirming the incident.
That notification will include, to the extent we know it:
What information was affected
When it happened and when we detected it
What we are doing about it
What steps we recommend you take, if any
We will also comply with any notification obligations imposed by applicable state or federal law.
10. Minors
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
If you believe a child has sent us information, write to us and we will delete it.
11. If the business changes ownership or closes
If obtenla.com is ever sold, merged, or transferred to another company, we will notify you by email before any personal information is transferred.
The company receiving the information will be bound by this policy, or we will offer you the option to delete your data before the transfer. You can exercise that option by writing to info@obtenla.com.
If the business closes, we will securely delete all personal information in our systems within 90 days of closing, except what the law requires us to retain.
12. Changes to this policy
If we modify this policy, we will update the date at the top and post a visible notice on the site.
Significant changes. If a change affects how we collect, use, or share your information, we will notify you by email and include a plain-language summary of what changed and why.
Active consent. We will not apply significant changes to information you already gave us without your express consent. In those cases, the notification email will include a link to accept the new terms. If you do not accept, we will continue handling your information under the policy in effect when you provided it, or you can request its deletion.
We keep previous versions of this policy available; write to us if you’d like to review them.
